New stylish bar & terrace for popular Milnthorpe restaurant

Press Release - April 2019

A brand new family friendly bar with outdoor terrace has opened at No.17 restaurant in Milnthorpe.

Offering everything from freshly roasted morning coffees and afternoon teas through to tasty homemade pizzas, No.17’s new bar brings a more relaxed, casual experience to the popular restaurant.

Bar food is overseen by Head Chef, Doug Fishwick who joined No.17 from sister pub, The Tavern at Hale.

His style encompasses the best locally sourced Cumbrian ingredients to create modern, full of flavour British dishes with the same menus served in both the restaurant and bar.

Seasonal menus include classic family favourites like fish and chips and rib eye steak, alongside tasty kebabs and hand pulled pizzas. A wide range of snacks and nibbles are also served throughout the day and most of the menu can cater for a gluten free diet.

A combination of Farrow and Ball greys on the walls, colour changing mood lighting and cosy zones with chesterfields gives the popular Milnthorpe restaurant a new stylish, laid back feel. Touches of wrought iron throughout add an almost industrial-chic vibe and outside on the terrace, twinkling overhead fairy lights shine down onto decorative tree stump tables and chairs.

Co-owner, Kate Cook was behind the design and said: “Since we opened No.17 in 2011, we added a lounge but we always knew it had the potential to be so much more. We wanted to turn it into a modern, vibrant bar where people could enjoy pre and post-dinner drinks, bring the family for a relaxed bar meal or just pop in for a beer or a glass of wine after work.

“I’m delighted with what we’ve managed to achieve and excited to see our customers’ reactions to the new-look No.17 as well as attracting new people in through the doors to see what we offer.”

No.17 bar and terrace opens from 10am Wednesday-Sunday serving a selection of breakfast buns, snacks, lunches, dinners and afternoon teas.

No17 @ Milnthorpe is a gem of a resteraunt. Fantastic food, friendly staff, all in a stylish decor. Just had Sunday lunch of Thai mussels – delicious. It is a popular and busy restraunt (based on reputation, as it’s off the beaten track) – so I would suggest pre-booking, to avoid any chance of disappointment.

Excellent food and service

We we realise there have been a few changes on the menu but actually there is still such a large variety of choice .
Something for everybody .
We chose the hotpot and the battered haddock and chips which were superbly cooked and beautiful presentation on the plate.

Special hidden gem

We visit 17 fairly regularly but not as often as we ought.
This visit was a birthday surprise for our grown up daughter. The staff helped with the plot which all went well.
The food was exceptional, even better than usual.presentation was, as usual, first class.

Excellent meal, lovely atmosphere

Went here for a meal on Saturday night. Me and my boyfriend were staying in Arnside and came across this place on trip advisor. So glad we found it as we had a great evening. The presentation of the food was beautiful, the food was really tasty and the portions were very good.

Milnthorpe- an atmospheric market town with a colourful history

A thriving little market town, Milnthorpe (once ‘the village by the mill’) gained its charter for a weekly market back in 1280 and a popular Farmers’ Market every Friday still attracts crowds today.

Milnthorpe is on the very edge of the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) where woodlands, flowery grasslands and stunning sands and saltmarshes are in abundance. Dallam Park just down the road from No.17 has been home to herds of fallow deer for hundreds of years and a walk through the park leads to the fast flowing River Bela. If you reach the rocky, narrow ‘Fairy Steps’ at Beetham, be sure to climb them without touching the sides and all your wishes will come true!

The Tavern at Hale , Hale, Milnthorpe, LA7 7BH | Tel: 015395 63203 |

The Tavern at Hale is our sister pub that has undergone major renovation. With a blend of traditional character and contemporary features, it is a relaxing and enjoyable space for all the family, including our canine friends.

We serve local real ales, fine wines and freshly prepared food using locally sourced seasonal ingredients.

Drop in and enjoy a hearty meal by a cosy log fire or light bar snack and refreshing drink on the outdoor terrace.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
